"Power X" BICYCLES SOLD AT WAL-MART

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.  It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Bicycles
Units: About 91,000
Importer: Bridgeway International of Naples, Fla.
Hazard: The bicycle chain can break, causing a rider to lose control and fall.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm is aware of 11 reports of incidents, including 9 reports of injuries, including lacerations and contusions.
Description: This recall involves “NEXT”-branded men’s 26-inch hybrid bicycles. The bicycles are red or orange. “Power X” and “Suspension” are printed on the frame. Model numbers LBH2611M and LBH2611M2 are included in this recall. The model number is located on the frame between the pedals.
Sold at: Walmart from February 2011 through July 2011 for about $100.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycle and contact the company for a free repair.

Bikes Affected

The affected bicycles were manufactured between January 1, 2011 and April 20, 2011, and can be identified by the Date Codes 20110101 to 20110418 which are located on a sticker on the bottom of the bicycle frame.

Stop using the NEXT Power X bicycle immediately. Inspect the manufacturing label on the bottom of the bicycle frame. If you have a bicycle that was manufactured between January 1, 2011 and April 20, 2011, please contact Bridgeway International for a free repair.

Q. Why is the Bridgeway conducting this recall?

A. We are conducting this recall to keep our customer’s safe and prevent injuries by replacing the chain on the Power X Bikes that were manufactured between January 1, 2011 through April 20, 2011.

Q. How can I tell if my Power X Bicycle is affected by the recall?

A. Look on the label on the bottom of the product for model number LBH2611M or LBH2611M2 and date code 20110101 through and including 20110420.

Q. How can I take advantage of the recall?

A. Call our toll free number or visit our website at www.powerxbike.com and we will schedule a time to inspect and repair your Power X Bike that was manufactured between January 01, 2011 through and including April 20, 2011.

Q. What is the problem with my Power X Bicycle?

A. There is potential that the chain could fail while you are pedaling the bicycle.

Q. My Power X bike appears to be operating okay. Can I continue to use it?

A. No. Even though your product appears to be safe, we are asking all customers to immediately stop using the product and participate in the recall Call our toll free number or visit our website at www.powerxbike.com and we will schedule a time to inspect and repair your Power X Bike that was manufactured between January 01, 2011 through and including April 20, 2011).

Q. I no longer have the receipt for the product. Can I still return it?

A. Yes. You can still return the product without a receipt.

Q. How long will it take for me to receive the repair?

A. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks from the date you contacted us. We apologize for any inconvenience, and assure you we are working as quickly as possible to repair/replace your product.

Q. Will I be able to repair the product myself?

A. No. We will have a Certified Bike assembler make the necessary repairs to your bike at no expense to you.

Q. How long with it take for me to get a repair?

A. The repair/replacement may take from 4 to 6 weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience and assure you we are working as quickly as possible to repair your product.

Q. Can I repair the product myself?

A. No. We urge you not to attempt to repair the product yourself. We will schedule the repair for your bike and have it professionally repaired at no additional cost to you.
